Arusha National Park is located about 32 km from the town of Arusha in the north of Tanzania. It is between the peaks of Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro, and on a clear day, both mountains can be seen from the park.
Compared to other parks, it is relatively small, about 137² km (52.9² miles), but still has a large variety of plants and animals. The name Arusha is taken from the Warusha people who traditionally lived in the area, but the park also overlaps the area that the Maasai tribes live, and a lot of the place names in the park are of Maasai origin.
Some of the animals that can be seen in the park are: buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, various antelope, blue and black & white colubus monkeys, leopard, hyeana, baboon and black rhino.
