Mount Kilimanjaro - Itinerary

Lemosho Route - 8 Days / 7 Nights

Day 1

For the first day we will leave the hotel early in the morning and drive to Londorosi Gate for registration. We will then drive to Lemosho Glades (2100m) where we will start the 4-5 hour trek through the unspoiled rainforest to Big Tree camp (2800m) where we'll have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2

Today the trek will take 6-7 hours with a gain of altitude of approximately 800m. Lunch will be served within an exciting valley just outside the Shira crater at 3100m. After lunch we'll go across the rim into the Shira Caldera which filled from lava from Kibo. We will camp and have dinner at Shira One camp (3600m).

Day 3

Today we have a 4-5 hour walk east across the Shira Plateau. This brings use to Shira Two camp via Shira Cathedral at 3880m. Shira Two is at a height of around 3850m where we will camp and have dinner.

Day 4

Today consists of going over a ridge at 4440m or 4600m over the Lava Tower which offers invaluable altitude acclimatization. From here we have a further 5-6 hour trek as we drop down though the Barranco Valley to the camp beside Barranco Wall at 3900m where we will camp and have dinner. The walk today takes between 8-10 hours.

Day 5

After an early breakfast, we will start by climbing up Barranco Wall which gives us an altitude gain of 300m. We continue our trek for 5-6 hours, crossing ridges and valleys to Karanga camp (3900m) where we will have our lunch. In the afternoon we will have an optional altitude acclimatizing trek up the scree slopes towards the Southern Ice Fields.

Day 6

After breakfast we will have about 2-4 hours trekking to an altitude of 4600m. At the camp we can either take an afternoon rest or acclimatization until midnight when our trek to the summit will commence.

Day 7

We rise very early at around midnight to start the ascent up to the crater rim through the scree slopes to Stella Point, then to the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak. Stella Point is located at 5750m around the crater rim which is reached after dawn. It is worth wearing several layers of thermal clothes before starting the trek to the summit. After enjoying the amazing views on Kilimanjaro's summit, we will trek downwards via Stella Point and the scree slopes back to Barafu camp for some hours rest before heading to Millennium camp located at 3750m. This is the hardest day for the trekkers to have ever experienced, which involves ascents and descents taking around 13-15 hours. We will camp and have dinner at Millennium camp.

Day 8

We leave the camp early in the morning and trek downwards to Mweka Gate via Mweka camp (3100m). The path from Millennium camp takes us through where heather grows, and the path is dusty. It takes about an hour to Mweka camp. The dusty path continues for some time before entering a heavy rainforest that takes us to the gate where we will have a picnic lunch, certificate presentation and photos before heading to the hotel where you will have dinner and stay overnight. It will take us 4-5 hours from Mweka camp to Mweka Gate (1500m).
